Friday at his residence. He was born in Berwick, the son of David J. Sluck Jr., Hazle Twp., and Christine (Balas) Sluck, Hazleton. He was a member of St. John’s B.C. Church. A graduate of Hazleton Area High School’s Class of 2004, he excelled in wrestling.In addition to his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, David J. and Eleanor Sluck Sr., Cleveland, Georgia; his sister, Chrisara Mayo and her husband Jeremy, California; an aunt, Sharon Page and her husband, Rodger, Cleveland, Georgia; an uncle, Darryl Sluck, Virginia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.Friends and relatives will be received Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s B.C. Church, Poplar and Beech streets, Hazleton. Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Koziel, 48, of Hometown, formerly of Hazleton died suddenly Saturday at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale.He was born in Hazleton, the son of Sophia (Gorski) Koziel, Hazleton and the late Michael Koziel.He was a police officer for the City of Allentown, joining the force in 2003. He advanced to detective of criminal investigations in 2012; became a member of the Crisis Negotiation Team in 2016 and a detective with the Lehigh County Insurance Fraud Task Force in 2017. During his time on the force, he received two Merit Commendations and a Bravery Commendation.Previously he served as a police officer in Kline Twp. from 1998 to 2000 and West Hazleton from 1999 to 2003. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 10. Paul was an avid music fan and was very proud of his Polish heritage.In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, the former Susan Laudeman; the following brother and sisters, Mary Koziel, Lakeworth, Florida; Julia Koziel, Berwick; Dorothea Saksek, West Hazleton; Michael Koziel and his wife, Beth Logan, North Chelmsford, Massachusetts; several nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and his faithful pet companions, Josey Wales, Lily, Dirty Harry, Julius, Coco, Pixie, Vera and Gypsy.The funeral will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Frank J. Bonin Funeral Home Inc. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Parish of Ss. Cyril and Methodius at the Church of St. Joseph.Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations to Lodge 10 Fraternal Order of Police in Paul’s memory would be appreciated by the family.
